Compass

Serie

2021, färbige Tusche auf Papier, 70 x 70 cm

There are four levels above an underlying grid system. Each layer contains the same number of pointed triangles, which are reminiscent of needles. Each layer is assigned a single vanishing point, which is located at different distances outside the picture plane. The arrows aim at the vanishing points like rotating compass needles that have lost their north and are indecisively orientated towards several vanishing points.

“The lockdowns have thrown us back on ourselves – whether we wanted to or not, we have become our own magnetic pole, the only centre of attraction around which we had to rotate without ceasing.”
(Clara Kaufmann on the works, July 2021)
