Sinked Horizons

2010, smoke crystal boulders, colored epoxy resin total 800 kg @ Symposion Krastal near Villach (AT)

Boulder stones are characterized by a thin ‘skin’ made up of deposits that were formed over millions of years. In this work, this layer was carefully removed. A kind of spatial location is set at rhythmic intervals through a vertical hole in the marble.

The marble boulders are placed in a row so that the holes describe a continuous line that can be recognized as a straight line from a special point of view. Depending on the ascending or descending shape line of the stones, circular or elliptical cuts result. The holes are filled with transparent blue paint, which allows the marble ground to be visible or to be guessed at and, depending on the depth of the cavity, creates a different color.
